Raymond Reel Case Analysis

You were recently hired by Raymond Reel, an up-and-coming documentary filmmaker. Since winning a prestigious documentary film award earlier this year, Ray has been getting many requests to do film work. The exciting news is that he was just approached by an important geographic society and asked to film two documentaries: one in South America and the other in India. Because he doesn’t know much about geography, Ray needs your help. Your job will be to get him up to speed on some geography basics, research topics related to the two documentary locations and advise him along the way on any questions related to geography.

Directions

Thanks in large part to the presentation you prepared for Ray and his crew, the trip to India was a great success. (The India assignment is from previous project that was already done and given to the instructor) His recent work has given Ray a keen interest in all things geographic. In fact, he is thinking that his next independent project should relate to a current world event or situation, and–you guessed it–the role of geography in it. He wants you to propose a subject for this new documentary. To do this, you will need to identify a situation that has gotten substantial news coverage and whose causes and/or implications are clearly related to issues of both physical and human geography.

Using the news sources provided, identify an evolving situation. Make sure it has been covered by multiple news outlets in multiple stories within the last six months. In a 1000-1200 word written topic proposal, explain:

1.
What the situation is.

2.
Who the key players or stakeholders are.

3.
How physical geography plays a role in the situation.

4.
How some aspect of human geography relates to the situation–as a cause, a complicating factor or something to be considered in plans for resolving the situation.

No special format is needed for the topic proposal, but be sure it is professional-looking, accurate and error-free. Include links to at least three news stories (from the sources below) that support the points you make about the geographic relevance of the topic. Also, be sure to include appropriate citations using APA format for both in-text citation and for the reference page. You can also use outside sources in addition to the links below to look up history/geography of the topic you are covering, but please make sure you give in-text citation and also put the link/source in the references page.
